Issue Based performance

..Confronting Issues......................Questioning Behavior..........................Exposing truth..

..........................Offering Hope..........................................Suggesting solutions...................

Using theatre as a mirror of society, we confront the audience with what is but shouldn’t be and suggest that it is all of our responsibility to reclaim this world for humanity.

Act Now have dealt with a range of issues in theatrical presentations. From hate crime, prejudice and discrimination, to sex and education we present the challenges we face in society in a thought provoking and challenging way.

We use emotional expression to create empathy and deepen understanding of the issues on a human level with the effect that people really feel for the topic being tackled.

...“ if you tell me I will hear, If you show me I will see, but if you make me feel…then I will understand!”

This project is tailored specifically for a teenage audience. The youth of this City are the future of this City and getting young people passionate about tackling issues is an integral part of creating a brighter future for Hull!

The Performance

A dynamic piece created to inspire young people to break away from negative behavior and lead a happy and life.

This multi-media performance presents the emotional turmiol of adolecence, the chaos, confusion and pressure to conform. The piece begins with a physical energetic burst portrying the drama of teenage emotions in action, physical metaphore, voiceover and music. The different sketches address a wide range of isues that young people are faced with that are an obstruction to their emotional well being, and to achieving their potential. Issues such as relationships, sex, alcohol, peer pressure, depression, self image and more.

Scenes are presented using different concepts and styles, from slam poetry to comic scenes and film. As the show reveals different characters, thought and feelings we aim to make the audience confront their own thoughts about their own behavior.

The show progresses to unveil the control we can have over our own lives by re-addressing our perspectives and values. We provoke the viewer to take their lives into their own hands, think for themselves, know what they want and go out and get it!

“...more and more she did just what everyone else does and now when she looks into the mirror she sees a broken image of herself”

"Britain came 20th out of 21 nations in a recent UNICEF pole to record the well being of young people."

This show is specifically created for Hull as we have addressed topics that we know are of concern in the area. However it captures universal issues that all British young people face. It expresses how we may feel negative about our world, but challenges young people to take responsibility and emphasises that it is how you are going to play your part in that world that counts!

The Performance

An energetic, dynamic sketch show, addressing prejudice and attitudes behind racism.
The show includes dramatic scenes, comedy, monologues, physical metaphor, songs and slam poetry. We raise issues including; hate and anger, fears and insecurities, responsibilities and consequences of actions.

By presenting extreme characters we encourage the audience to confront their own prejudices and recognize the absurdity and ignorance behind racist views.

Different scenes expose the truth behind the myths and show the reality of struggles that minority groups face. The show celebrates the fusion of different cultures, creating a positive attitude towards a multi-cultural community.

“If we want to live in a world where we are free to be whoever we want to be, free from judgement, free from resentment or aggression, we have an obligation to give all other people that same freedom.”

German larger, a Japanese T.V,
A Swedish car, and an Indian curry!”
