Hull is a pioneering city, different companies are constantly collaborating together to make positive change happen. New and exciting projects are constantly being created and we are so thankful that we have had the opportunity to work with so many diverse organizations. All of which have been filled with passionate, inspiring individuals. Our work often provides a bridge between what the council or organisation wants to provide and how they can reach the people within the community. The projects we deliver for the council and community organizations are always very intimate. We work with the people for the people to create a project that meets specific requirements and have as an effective outcome as possible. We have worked to perform professional peices of theatre addressing a community issue. This serves to raise awareness and give the audience a clear understanding of the topic. Alternatively we have worked with communities to create performances with them on subjects they care about.

The Victim’s Voice |

“Every
time it rains I think of the floods and start to cry.” |
||||
The Victim’s Voice is a project that worked with flood victims in the west Hull area. It ran for the summer term of 2008. Funding was given by The British Red Cross, and the project was supported by DOC (Developing Our Community) and instigated by Charlene Kent. This project was an extremely exciting concept and offered many challenges, emotionally and dramatically, as we heard accounts of people’s experiences and attempted to deliver an accurate portrayal of the tragedy. Every week flood victims of all ages came together to support each other and collaborate to create a performance about the floods of June 2008. |

| “at least we are lucky enough to have our lives!” | ||||
This project gave a platform for victims of the floods to have their voices heard, it brought the community closer together, allowed us to be productive about our fears for the future and celebrated how our lives had moved on one year later. The performance also addressed global concerns and major natural disasters in an attempt to put the events of 2007 into perspective and encourage flood victims to remember the positive aspects of their lives and appreciate how lucky we really are.

Act Now worked with Hull Churches Home form Hostpital (HCHH) to deliver a performance as part of their launch day for "The Family Together Project". This is an amazing project that works to help patients suffering with cancer and their families and we were privileged to play a small part. The piece portrayed the difficulties of a family living with cancer on an emotional and human level and showed the impact the organisation has on the people it works with. We used real life case studies to create the material and used film and movement in the end performance. As a result of seeing the performance at the launch day, the organisers requested that we made a film to be used as a promotional resourse for the campaign. |

Faith Workshops |
||||
Personally we are followers of the Christian faith and by working with our community to tackle issues that affect it we are serving our living, loving God. We are passionate about inspiring people to follow a spiritual path and find joy in life beyond material value. Our religious knowledge is not limited to just the Christian faith and we have studied other religions. We believe universal truth can be found in many places and promote understanding of all religions to encourage a peaceful, inter-faith community. Through promoting forgiveness and self worth we believe that we can help change lives of young people, and unite them together to want to create a better life for themselves and everyone in their community. We focus on anger and the negative effects it has on lives and promote peaceful conflict resolution and attitudes of acceptance of all people, from all races, cultures and religions. We have performed in school assemblies in collaboration with St Michael's to educate young people about Christian values and the story of Jesus. We have also worked with local churches to deliver fun days, performing moral stories and playing team games. A project was most recently delivered for St Michael’s Youth Project during their RE-action event. The two day project also collaborated with Label of Love and was a great success. The response from the children involved was overwhelming and the way they engaged with the topic matter was truly an inspiration for the future of Orchard Park. We have also delivered workshops around the theme of peace on earth for the Nagajuna Kadampa Buddhist centre. |
